Save My Bacon provides fast and convenient paperless short-term loans online. We lend up to $1,000 depending on the take home pay (net pay) received from your permanent job (you must have a minimum of $400 take home pay to qualify).

Apply through our Online Loan Calculator this will determine the cost of your cash loan. You can pick between 1 and 6 repayments depending on your pay cycle.

You will need to complete an online application form and once you have completed your application, you will be asked to sign your Loan Documents online. If any additional information is required we will call, SMS and email you to explain what is needed.

Can I still get a Save My Bacon short-term loan if I think I have bad credit or have had defaults in the past?

Yes. Save My Bacon is committed to responsible personal lending. We aim to only lend to people who we believe can afford to repay us as agreed. If you have had a default we may still lend to you. Our loans are based on a customer's capacity to meet loan repayments and future creditworthiness.

If you are currently insolvent, under a NAP or SIO or have outstanding collections to another short term lender please do not apply.

What is the minimum and maximum loan term?

Save My Bacon offers short-term lending from 2-42 days.

What is the minimum and maximum I can borrow?

Save My Bacon offers short-term loans from $100 to $1,000 based on how you meet our criteria.

Can I change the amount I want to borrow?

If you would like to apply for a different amount please give our team a ring on 0800 272836 to assist you with this process.

If I currently have a short-term loan with another company can I apply?

As Save My Bacon are responsible lenders, we only want to lend you what you can afford to repay. Using multiple short-term finance at one time can lead you into a bad debt situation.

In all other cases we assess your current situation and taking into account your affordability and capacity to repay a Save My Bacon Short-term loan.

How can I receive my cash in 60 minutes?

We will transfer the money to your bank within 60 minutes of you receiving loan approval communications

I haven't received my verification code, what do I do?

Your verification code can take up to 60 seconds to arrive. You can request another code by clicking on the resend verification code button after 30 seconds. If you still haven't received the code, please check you have put the correct mobile number in the application.

If you have had a Save My Bacon loan before, you should receive the code automatically to your original mobile number

I am having problems signing my Loan Documents, what next?

Please close the signing webpage and log onto your Save My Bacon account on our website. When your login page opens, you will see a link giving you the option to sign your loan documents, you can also wait for an email to arrive in your inbox and follow the link in the email.

If you are still having issues, please give our Customer Service Team a quick call on 0800 272836 and they will be able to assist you.

What is a WDA(Wage Deduction Authority)?

A Wage Deduction is only utilised by Save My Bacon as a last resort when Save My Bacon has exhausted all attempts with the borrower to reach a suitable repayment arrangement.

Save My Bacon understands unexpected situations can arise, as a borrower it is important you contact us and keep in touch so we can work with you to get your loan repaid.

We are here to help and keep your loan repayments manageable.

Failure to repay your loan may lead to legal action and may adversely affect your ability to gain credit in the future. If you have doubts about whether you'll be able to repay a loan we suggest that you should not take out a loan.

I've had and repaid a Save My Bacon loan before so why have I been declined now?

We appreciate that you've used our service before and repaid your loan, but as responsible lenders we need to take an interest in a customer's ongoing financial health. Therefore we consider every application on an individual basis. If your application has been declined/cancelled, please check your email for the reason, or give our Customer Care Team a call on 0800 272836 and they will explain the reason.

Do I need to give a reason for my application?

Yes, New regulations require us to ask the purpose of the loan. It is our intention to lend for occasional, unexpected and emergency short-term cash needs. You can use Save My Bacon loan for anything legal. Save My Bacon practices Responsible Lending Please also act responsibly by only borrowing what you can afford to repay as agreed.

How much can I borrow?

You may be eligible to borrow from $100 up to $500 on your first loan and up to $1000 on future loans, depending on your individual situation..

Use the Online Loan Calculator to help determine the cost of your loan. Our affordability calculations take into account the repayment amounts after fees have been added and the daily interest has been accumulated for the term of the loan, compared to your normal income level. You must have a minimum of $400 take home pay (net pay) and you can never repay more than 25% of your net pay per period as we want to ensure you have the means to pay us back.

Am I eligible for a Save My Bacon loan?

Save My Bacon typically provides a short-term cash loan if you meet these simple Loan Requirements:

1. You need to be at least 18 years of age

2. You need to live in New Zealand

3. You need to meet our minimum income test ($400 per week)

4. You need to be in permanent employment (as an employee of that company)

5. You need to have an active bank account (for at least one pay cycle)

6. Your pay needs to be electronically transferred into your bank account on a regular basis

7. You need to have an active email account so Save My Bacon can communicate with you via email

8. You need to own a working mobile phone. This way we can also communicate by text which includes sending you a verification code (a security feature of our service) so you can complete your application, and

9. You need to complete and submit the online application form

For your first loan with Save My Bacon we do require 3 months bank statements from you - How do I do this?

For further details about the collection of, and potential uses of your information please read our Privacy Policy. Please note, Save My Bacon takes action to help protect the personal and financial information you share with us by employing secure socket layer (SSL) encryption technology.

Save My Bacon may request further information which assists in making a decision on your ability to repay the loan.

What do I need to get my application started?

You must complete the application through the Online Loan Calculator

You must provide us with Identification documents - Please see the Identification section below for more details

For first time customers up to 3 months Bank Statements are required - Please see the Bank Statement section below for more details

What Identification must I provide and how do I do this?

You must provide 1 form of primary photographic identification, this can be:

NZ Drivers Licence(current or expired),

NZ passport - can be current or expired within the last 2 years, but cannot be cancelled, defaced or mutilated.

Overseas passport(must be current),

NZ Certificate of Identity,

NZ Refugee Travel Document,

NZ Emergency Travel Document,

NZ Firearms License.

Or

You must provide 1 form of primary non-photo ID AND 1 form of supporting photo ID. These can be:

Primary non-photo ID

NZ Full Birth Certificate,

Certificate of NZ Citizenship,

Foreign Citizenship Certificate,

Foreign Birth Certificate

AND

Supporting photo ID

International Driving Permit,

HANZ 18+ Card,

NZ Educational Institute issued card - Only a local NZ Education Institute issued card, from the local region.

If you are providing a NZ drivers license you are able to enter those details on the online application form. Please ensure you provide both the Drivers License Number(5a) and the Version Number(5b)

For all other forms of ID (outlined above) you can scan or take clear photos of the documents and email the documentation to loans@savemybacon.co.nz or fax to (03) 343 1034. A customer service representative will contact you after you apply to assist with the sending of these documents.

How do I provide Bank Statements?

After signing your documents you will be offered a bank verification page. This offers a bank level security way of sending SMB a read only statement of 90 days worth of transactions.

The following banks are compatible with this technology:

If you do use internet banking or are with a non compatible bank you are able to send a copy by email to loans@savemybacon.co.nz or fax to (03) 343 1034

I'm having problems with my loan application what should I do?

If you are having difficulties, please call the Customer Support Team on 0800 272836 between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Approval Process
Can I still get a Save My Bacon short-term loan if I think I have bad credit or have had defaults in the past?

Yes - At Save My Bacon, defaults can affect whether you qualify for a loan but it won't rule you out. Our loans are offered to those who can demonstrate the capacity to meet their loan repayments and future creditworthiness. Save My Bacon does run a credit check; however don't worry if you have defaults in history as we may still lend to you. Save My Bacon takes responsible lending very seriously.

How do I know what is happening with my application?

We will keep you updated with SMS's and calls throughout the cycle of your loan when required.

How do I know if you've received my application?

Once your application has been received, we will email your documents to you and send you a SMS saying we have received your application.

Why and when would you need to contact my employer or payroll officer?

Save My Bacon will only contact your employer or payroll officer if we are unable to verify your information from your provided bank statements

We do not discuss how much you are borrowing or any other loan details, these are confidential to you and Save My Bacon.

If you do not want us contacting your employer or payroll officer please contact us immediately on loans@savemybacon.co.nz or 0800 272836 and we will work with you to confirm the necessary information needed to approve your loan application.

Receiving Your Cash Loan
How can I receive my cash loan in 60 minutes?

We will transfer the money to your bank within 60 minutes of you receiving formal loan approval.

Loan Repayment and Costs
What does a loan costs?

Our fee structure is transparent. Our Online Loan Calculator gives you the exact repayment amounts for the details you enter.

You can enter various amounts and repayment dates prior to proceeding with a loan application and this way you can see what you will be paying back before you apply.

How do I repay my loan?

It's easy. Save My Bacon set up an automatic direct debit to collect the money from the Bank Account you get paid into.

When your loan is approved you will be emailed an approval email which has your confirmed paydates and repayments.

Please note that if the funds aren't available in your bank account as agreed, then you may incur default fees towards the cost of a failed collection. The Loan Agreement Documents clearly identify default fees.

What is an AIR (annual percentage rate)?

Save My Bacon's AIR is 547.50%. Please remember this term is an annualised measure that wasn't devised with Save My Bacon small and urgent loans in mind. Our loans only have a maximum term of 42 days and we do not offer a long-term loan product for a year. At this stage you can't actually borrow from us for a year!

What if I cannot pay on the due date?

If you think you will have insufficient funds in your bank account on your repayment date, you must contact us immediately to halt the direct debit. We are able to stop the direct debit up to 4:30pm on your due date. After this time we will be unable to as it will have been sent to your bank.

If your circumstances change and you cannot pay on the due date. Please call our customer support team on 0800 272 836 prior to 4:30 on the repayments due date

If you don’t meet your repayment, fees and interest will be charged depending on your circumstances and reason. If payment and contact has still not been made then your details will either be passed to your employer for wage deductions or to a debt collector for collection.

My circumstances have changed and I can’t meet my repayments without suffering financial hardship – What can I do?

Save My Bacon is a responsible lender and we do realise that circumstances can change. We can help you and will consider your circumstances both sympathetically and positively

Can I repay my loan early?

You're welcome to repay your Save My Bacon Online Loan early! Save My Bacon doesn’t charge you for paying back your loan early so there will be no additional fees

The interest on a Save My Bacon Online Loan is calculated daily. If you repay your loan early, your interest is only calculated up to when you make your last repayment

You will need to contact our customer support team on 0800 272836 for a final balance figure on your loan.

I’d like to know how much I owe and when it’s due for repayment. How do I check these details?

When your loan is approved you will be emailed an approval email which has your confirmed paydates and repayments

What if I change my mind?

For a short period of time after the terms of a loan contract have been disclosed to you, you can cancel the contract . If you change your mind and no longer wish to take out your Loan, you have five working days to return the loan proceeds to Save My Bacon and cancel your Loan Agreement.

In this case, a $25 admin fee and the interest accrued up to the day the funds are returned may apply. Please see your Loan Agreement for a full statement of your rights and the Terms and Conditions of the loan.

Your next loan and managing your account
How quickly can I reapply for a loan?

You can reapply immediately after your final payment has been reconciled on your account, usually around 9am the following morning. However, your direct debit payment takes two business days to clear.

If you require your loan on that same day, you need to provide us with confirmation from your bank stating that your payment has cleared and that it will not dishonour. You can ask your bank to send this through to loans@savemybacon.co.nz or fax through to 03 343 1034, or ring our customer service team on 0800 272836 for further information

To help ensure we're responsible lenders you can only have one Save My Bacon loan at any time and a loan is not formally closed until the final payment clears. To help ensure you are a responsible borrower, a Save My Bacon loan should only be used to meet short-term cash needs.

I have repaid my loan but it is still showing that I have an outstanding balance. Why is this?

If you have repaid your balance overnight our upload to reconcile these payments is not carried out until around 9 am the following morning.

If it is after this time, and your payment hasn’t been reconciled, please contact our customer support team on 0800 272836

How do I reapply?

When you filled in your original application an online account was created using your email address as your username and your chosen password.

As a returning customer simply log in here and click reapply and use the online calculator to choose how much you would like to borrow.

You will be taken to the reapplication screen. Here you can update any personal details, reconfirm you mobile number and reapply for your new loan.

How do weekends and public holidays affect the service?

Processing of your loan and transferring of funds are between the hours of 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday (not including public holidays)

If you apply outside these hours we will begin processing you loans the following business day.
